Hey Oppo...
I’m bored at work and looking at cars I can’t afford. Don’t you hate it when you find something absolutely PERFECT but you’re just not in any position to buy it? This sucks. Well I thought I’d share with the group anyways. Have a nice weekend, everyone. I plan on getting out and doing some driving in the vehicle that I actually do own. Hopefully the weather is ok.

If I’m shopping for Trans Ams that I can’t afford I go big.

It’s not perfect, but for $3k it’s probably good enough!

I’d be fine with the V6 because I just want a coupe to drive.
I would LOVE the V8 but: I don’t need to pay extra for it, pay more in fuel for it, pay more in insurance for it, and drive too damn fast in it because I absolutely would.
If the world were perfect I’d love to have the ram-am, snarling nostril intake V8 T rans-AM but...it just isn’t.

I love it. My wallet doesn't. I'd only get it if I won the lottery or all of a sudden came into a large sum of money.

WHAT?!?!?!? That is OUTRAGEOUS. There’s no way I drop that kind of coin on a TA....unless I just had unlimited monies.

Understood, but I'm pretty sure you would need to swap in a LSD if you're lucky enough to get one.

Still not the most expensive. Hagarty says a ‘69 Trans Am convertible is valued at $775k, but I don’t like the styling of those. Of course there were only 8 built.

That’s insane. I know I could build one as nice (or better) for less money. And have the satisfaction of building it myself.

I didn't know they only made 8!

The LSD was available on the V6 from 98-on
Also, even the V6 from that time is pretty fast. The 0-60 of the 3800 automatic is 7.4 s, and that’s the slowest version!!! The V6 Camaro/Firebird was faster than the V8 Mustang
back then

no T-tops. CP

T-tops are awesome, but the car itself kinda sucks. The engine is tucked under the windshield, so difficult to work on even with the V6, Tesla build quality, and interior ergonomics designed by Donald Trump.
No room for your feet with the pedals, no room at all really, and the trunk can’t hold anything except the T-tops (the storage rack for the T-tops is cool, but really the only positive thing I can say about the interior)
The best things about the car are the T-tops and 5 cup holders.
Unfortunately, there is no cupholder on the left door, only the right.

you’re making great points and I won’t dispute anything you say.

Yeah, none of that stuff really matters once you hit the loud pedal.

As much as I love those things, they have not aged well.

I have wondered what a Firebird would be like with the modern DOHC high-feature V6, an IRS swap, and a 6-speed stick would be...
or a Falconer DOHC I6 which would probably cost many times the purchase price of the car.
A 90's era revamp of the Firebird Sprint.... sleek and clean.... and either a duck-tail, or no spoiler at all. Enough power, but not overkill... but rather all handling and aero.
It would either be that... or a modified C5 or C6 Corvette... as if Pontiac had a badge-engineered version, or had been able to build and evolve the 60s-era Banshee concept.
Or a modernized Fiero…
Shame on GM for killing Pontiac, and shame on everyone else for not picking up the slack of affordable and attractive performance cars .

Don’t listen to it! Okay, Fischer Price may have did the tooling on the interior and the panel gaps within make me want to post that confused Jackie Chan meme, but they’re wonderful cars. Ergonomically , they’re actually great in my experience (I’ve had a ‘98 Z28 for over a decade ). The touchpoints are anyway. Everything is within fingers reach and logically placed. The shifter is also in a great position.
Yes, you practically lie down in the set and the dash is expansive. The seating position takes time to get used i t. It’s the completely opposite of a Fox or SN95 Mustang inside.
They’ve got massive performance potential, both in a straight line and around the curves. How many cars will allow you to tuck 315mm tires on four corners with no modifications AND will baby? Not many. The SLA front end and 3 link rear has plenty potential.
Also, the hatch is where it’s at. I’ve had 8ft tables, trees, furniture and other random things in my car when it was all I had. Couldn’t always close the hatch, but I could bungee it down and move stuff across town.
Fuel economy is also surprisingly good when you stay out of it.
If you pull the trigger on one, however, I urge you to wait until you can drive an LS1 car. You can NOT get a faster (stock) car for the money. You might find a faster car, but not a bone stock one.
You know what’s funny? People spend a fortune to swap contemporary Mustangs over to SLA front suspensions, torque arm rears and swap to LS power when a measly little F body had all of that to begin with.

I really wish I could buy this car. I may have to set a goal for myself to have a $4k “car fund” of cash on hand in my future for purchases such as this. But I’m not in a position to even finance it at the moment. My credit is trash because I’m a total fuck up and I’m losing my job at the end of this month.
I just want a smaller second vehicle. A car just for ME. I love my trailblazer but it feels like driving an empty bus more often than not because I’m the sole occupant. I need a car to drive just me to work or when I’m free on the weekends and it’s just me. Dad duty and toting the kids around can be the blazer’s job. I want a coupe.
